The country will close the policy chapter concerning free movement of goods at the intergovernmental conference, which will be held on April 19. However, the country will not start negotiations on the unopened chapters, Spanish EU Presidency spokeswoman Cristina Gallach confirmed. Gallach said that the Spanish EU Presidency plans to organise another intergovernmental conference in June. There were expectations that a lot of policy chapters will be opened and closed at the next intergovernmental conference. The country had already opened 30 out of the 33 policy chapters. The yet unopened chapters are judiciary and fundamental rights, competition policy and the foreign, security and defence policy. We note that at end-March the Union invited the country to submit its negotiation position on the policy chapter competition policy.
