Croatia's registered unemployment rate increased to 20.1% in February from 19.8% in January, the statistics office reported on its website. It was also higher than the 19.6% jobless rate registered in February 2011. The number of registered unemployed Croatians rose by an annual 1.9% and increased by a monthly 2.6% to 342,951 at end-February, the national employment service has said earlier. The number of newly registered unemployed was 25,590, up by 5.3% on the year. IntelliNews comment: It could be expected that the unemployment rate will continue to increase in annual terms, taking into account the projections for lower economic growth this year due to the eurozone debt crisis, which will have a negative effect on the financial sector, especially on the banking sector and its crediting, as well as on personal consumption and trade with the EU.
