Croatia new car sales drop by 19.5% y/y in Jan-Aug.

The registrations of new cars in Croatia declined by 19.5% y/y to 26,020 in Jan-Aug, market research agency Promocija Plus announced. The most popular brand was Opel with 3,405 sold cars in Jan-Aug, having a market share of 13.1%, followed by Volkswagen with 3,017 cars and Chevrolet with 2,129. The best selling models were Opel Astra (1,631 sold cars in Jan-Aug), Volkswagen Polo (1,314) and Opel Corsa (1,069). The observed significant drop in new car sales resulted from the global financial crisis, which forced citizens to delay the purchase of durable goods. In August, new car sales rose by 9.7% y/y to 2,657. The most popular brand was Volkswagen with 14.3% market share in August, followed by Ford (9.5%) and Renault (8.3%).
