Croatia's new car sales declined by 14.1% y/y to 38,587 in 2010, Vjesnik daily reported, quoting market research agency Promocija Plus data. The most popular brand was Opel with 4,697 sold cars in 2010, corresponding to a 12.2% market share. Next ranked Volkswagen with 4,249 cars (11%) and Renault with 3,328 cars (8.6%). The best selling cars were Opel Astra (2,241 cars), Volkswagen Polo (1,821) and Opel Corsa (1,462). The observed contraction of new car sales resulted from the global financial crisis, which discouraged the purchase of durable goods. In December alone, new car sales rose by 1.4% y/y to 3,205. The most popular brands were Volkswagen with a market share 12.2%, followed by Skoda (10.6%) and Ford (9%). |
