Copper production in Kazakhstan to increase by 24% within 5 years.

Copper cathode production will be increased by 24% within next 5 years, industry minister Aset Isekeshev has stated as a mining conference. He explained that 25,000 tonnes will be produced by Kazakhmys while Glencore controlled Kazzinc will provide 70,000 tonnes. Presently, the country produced around 400,000 tonnes of copper cathode a year. Kazzinc plans to launch copper facility in eastern Kazakhstan. Close to the Chinese border. The value of the project is USD 700mn. Kazakhmys intends to launch new Boschekul copper facility by 2014. The capacity of the new plant will be 100,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year. Boschekul is also located close to the Chinese border and the project is being financed by China development Bank (USD 2.7bn). Kazakhmys also is considering Aktogai project, which would allow to produce 150,000 tonnes of copper a year.
