Consumer confidence in Slovakia improves in July 2011.

Slovakias consumer confidence indicator increased by 2.8pts m/m to negative 21.9 points in July 2011, the statistics office said in its latest consumer barometer survey. The seasonally adjusted indicator stood at minus 23.3 points. The share of consumers who believe that the economic situation in the country deteriorated in the past 12 months fell to 68% in July from 72% in June. More than half of the respondents expect the situation to worsen in the next year although their share also fell by 2pts m/m to 53%. According to 31% of the surveyed people, the consumer price inflation will accelerate this year while 40% expect prices to keep their pace of increase. The development of the labour market also improved compared to the survey from June with the share of consumers saying unemployment will increase falling to 42% from 50%. The consumer barometer survey was carried out in early July on a sample of 1,135 respondents.
