Civil cases for debt in South Africa rose 0.8% in Jan, y/y.In Dec 2009, civil cases for debt rose 10.9% y/y. The total number of civiljudgements recorded for debt for the three months to Jan-end rose by 8.7%against the same period ended Jan, 2009, Business Day reported. Between Jan2009 and Jan 2010, 3.4% fewer judgements for debt were recorded. Bloomberg addedthat Moodys Investor Services general manager of financial institutions,Mardig Haladdjian, foresees non-performing loans stabilising in the country bymid-year.
