Bulgarian general insurance market grows by 0.5% y/y in Jan-Oct 2011.

The gross revenues from general insurance premiums increased by 0.5% y/y to BGN 1.09bn (EUR 555.9mn) in Jan-Oct 2011 and the growth accelerated from 0.3% y/y in Jan-Sep, according to data of the financial supervision commission. The claims on general insurance contracts reached BGN 521.6mn, down by 9.1% y/y. Life insurance premium incomes increased by 1.3% y/y to BGN 197.6mn in Jan-Oct after falling by 0.1% y/y in Jan-Sep. The corresponding claims dropped by 1.1% y/y to BGN 76.6mn. The premium revenues of voluntary health insurance companies decreased by 3.4% y/y to BGN 33.4mn in Jan-Oct but the contraction narrowed from 4.1% y/y in Jan-Sep. The value of the corresponding claims rose by 0.9% y/y to BGN 19.4mn. The number of persons holding health insurance contracts reached 202,105 as of the end of October, up by 2.18% in a year.
