Bosnias Serb Republic GDP contracted 0.3% on the year in the second quarter of 2012, the Republics statistics office said in a statement. This represents a slight improvement compared to the 0.9% y/y decline recorded in the first quarter. The economy of Bosnias smaller entity registered thus a negative GDP growth rate for a second quarter in a row, entering a technical recession. In the second quarter alone the gross value added in real terms decreased mostly in manufacturing (down 6% y/y), agriculture, hunting and forestry (down 4.1% y/y) and construction (minus 3.7%). The largest annual increase over the period was recorded in the sectors of financial intermediation (up 4.7%), fishing (up 4.4%) and education (up 3.5%). The Serb Republics GDP rose 0.8% in real terms to BAM 8.7bn (EUR 4.4bn) in 2011 and represented 34% in Bosnias total GDP. |
