Bosnia & Herzegovina lost five places to rank 86th in the 2018 edition of the Doing Business Report of the World Bank that assesses the ease of doing business across 190 economies worldwide. The country ranked 81st in 2017.
Bosnia continues to be the worst performer in the SEE region in terms of ease of doing business, ranking considerably behind Serbia (43rd rank), Kosovo (40th), Montenegro (42nd) and Macedonia (11th). Across the wider CEE/CIS region, it beats only Tajikistan and Iran.
The ranking evaluates how easy or difficult it is for a local entrepreneur to open and run a small to medium-sized business when complying with relevant regulations. It measures and tracks changes in regulations affecting 10 areas in the life cycle of a business: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency.
This year Bosnia ranked better in three areas (registering property, protecting minority investors and resolving insolvency) and performed worse in the other seven areas.
