The average monthly net wage in Bosnia & Herzegovina was BAM854 (€436.6) in March, up 1.4% y/y in nominal terms, data from the country’s statistics office showed on May 16. In February, the net wage rose by a nominal 1.1% y/y.

Salaries in Bosnia mostly rose in nominal terms last year (up 0.9% through December). As Bosnia’s economic growth is likely to speed up in 2017, wages are expected to increase further. On the other hand, rising CPI will most likely reduce the real wage growth.

The statistics office did not provide data on changes in wages in real terms in March. However, Bosnia's annual CPI increased by 1.4% y/y in March and by 1.2% y/y in February, suggesting that the real wage remained unchanged y/y in March and dropped 0.1% y/y in February.

Across sectors, the highest annual nominal increase in the average net wage was in the professional, scientific and technical activities sector (up 12.5%), whereas the deepest decline was reported for the other services sector (down 1.6% y/y).

The average monthly gross wage increased by a nominal 1.4% y/y to BAM1,327 in March.
