Austrian BKS Bank expands in Slovakia.

Austrian BKS Bank, which started banking operations in Slovakia a year ago, is expanding its activities in the country, with the launch of services for retail customers, BKS Bank Bratislava said in a statement. The Austrian lender opened its first bank branch in Slovakia in 2011, after being active on the country's leasing market through its unit BKS Leasing since 2007. It has serviced only corporate clients so far. Now it is providing lending and savings products to retail clients, as well as current accounts, payment services and online banking. BKS Bank Bratislava said its next step will be to offer insurance products, while in the mid-term it plans to launch also securities trading services. BKS Bank extended a total of EUR 29mn in new loans during the first nine months of 2012, bringing the total amount of outstanding loans up to EUR 39.8mn. The BKS Bank group, which employs more than 1,100 people in Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia, has total assets worth EUR 6.68bn. Its lending portfolio stood at EUR 4.96bn as of end-September 2012.
