Antitrust body to review sale of Media Group Bulgaria Holding.

By bne IntelliNews April 11, 2011
Two local individuals, Ognyan Donev and Lyuboir Pavlov, have asked the state antitrust commission to allow the acquisition of Media Group Bulgaria Holding, according to a note on the website of the regulator. Media Group Bulgaria Holding runs leading dailies Trud and 24 Chasa, weekly 168 Chasa and four other national weeklies, five regional dailies, and nine magazines. Ognyan Donev is CEO of the leading pharmaceutical producer Sopharma. Lyubomir Pavlov is providing financial consultancy and services and is also running a cafeteria. The participants do not expect the concentration to affect any market. The antitrust commission invites all interested parties to send opinions in a week (till April 15, 2011). On a separate note, the state registry agency enlisted Ognyan Donev and Lyubomir Pavlov as owners of 40% and 43%, respectively of Media Group Bulgaria Holding on Saturday (April 9). BG Printmedia controls the remaining 17% in the company. Printmedia on its part is owned by BG Privateinvest GmbH (53%) and Lyubomir Pavlov (47%). We remind that in December 2010 German media group WAZ sold its media business in Bulgaria (Media Group Bulgaria Holding) to Vienna-based BG Privateinvest GmbH at undisclosed price. Later on, Lyubomir Pavlov (as manager of Printmedia and empowered by the other manager Hristo Grozev) sold 83% of Media Group Bulgaria Holding. BG Privateinvest has media investments in Bulgaria and was set up by Carl Habsburg, Daniel Rutz and Hristo Grozev. Hristo Grozev now claims that he has been cheated and said he will appeal the decision of the registry agency at the court.
