Albanias highest electoral court, The Electoral College of the Court of Appeals, has turned down the oppositions request for a rerun of Tirana mayor vote, thus putting an end to months-long disputes about the mayoral battle in the capital, Albanian Daily News said. After a double vote recount, the candidate of the country's ruling Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, was declared a winner of the Tirana elections with a tight 93-vote lead ahead of the opposition candidate and three-times Tirana mayor, Edi Rama. Basha has been a member of DP since 2005. He served as minister of public works (2005-2007) and foreign minister (2007-2009) in the first Berishas government and as an interior minister (2009-2011) in the current cabinet.
