Albanian car imports double in 2011.

By bne IntelliNews April 12, 2012
The number of cars imported in Albania reached some 32,000 in 2011, up from 16,000 a year earlier, local news agency Lajmeshqip reported. Car imports accounted for 19,000 in Q4 alone, up from 4,000 in the same quarter of 2010. This growth has resulted from the introduction of a new calculation formula of the pollution tax payment as of October 2011. However, Albania currently has a ratio of 135 cars per thousand inhabitants and still lags behind the EU standards of 500-600 vehicles per thousand inhabitants.
