Albania to open bids for second 3G licence on Sept 5, 2011.

Albanian Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) will open bids for the countrys second 3G licence on September 5, 2011, Albanian Daily News reported. The floor price has been set at EUR 12.5mn. The value of the offer will be decisive for winning the race, while the time frame for building the network will have less weight in the bids assessment process. We note that the government decided to award more 3G licences following demands of mobile companies. Albanias single 3G licence was awarded to Vodafone Albania in November 2010. Vodafone Albania, a subsidiary of UK Vodafone Group, offered EUR 31.4mn for the 15-year licence, whose initial prices was also EUR 12.5mn.
