US company AES is considering the construction of a 80 MW solar energy part in the country, US ambassador James Warlick said. The installation would be the largest of its kind in Europe. The investment in the project is estimated at some USD 400mn. The facility will be located near the Danube town of Silistra. AES is to launch the first unit of its 670 MW coal-fired power plant at the Maritsa East mine complex by the middle of September and the second unit will become operational a month later, by the middle of October. The project, which started in June 2006, is valued at EUR 1.3bn, 12% of which would be spent on environment installations.
